In this and the following chapter no attempt will be made to do more than describe architectural features from the structural point of view, so far as they apply to masonry. It is not the primary object to give lessons in architecture. At the same time, the illustrations are selected as far as possible true to style, archæo-logically correct, and artistically unobjectionable.
