Aristo Lamp-Schriever Method.

The diffusing screen is placed so close to the light that when this screen is perfectly straight and perpendicular, the hoop touches the screen and with the screen tipped at an angle towards the subject, the hoop just clears the screen, thus separating the lamp from the screen about 3 feet

573. Plain Lighting With Aristo Lamp

Plain Lighting With Aristo Lamp. In making a Plain Lighting with the lamp, first place your subject 4 to 5 feet back from the line of the lamp and about 8 feet from the lamp. Place the nearest end of the reflecting screen about 5 feet from the subject and at sufficient angle to avoid choking the shadows. The diffusing screen is arranged facing the subject and by means of the tan curtains on the side of the diffusing screen next to the subject, you can control the light and cut off any portions you do not want so strongly illuminated. For Portrait Lighting, the black curtains can be drawn on the screen and the light excluded from the ear on the high-light side-entirely. For a Portrait Lighting, the screen is best operated a little closer to the subject, thereby concentrating the light a little more on the portions where it is desired. By reference to the floor plan drawing (Illustration No. 76) you will note the exact distance the light, diffusing and reflecting screens are placed from the subject, also the angle they occupy.
