To make a pad, cut from the lid of a cigar-box a piece of wood of the desired size. Upon this place several thicknesses of sheet-cotton cut to size. A stretch of fine woollen cloth and a top or surface of linen (a piece of an old handkerchief is excellent) is now put on. The two latter coats must be long enough to come well over the wood round the edges. Finally, tack on a binding of leather or tin. If a lid of a tin is handy, it is a good plan to make the pad to fit into it.
