As in the case of lathe tools, these are made of rectangular steel bar material, forged, hardened, and ground to shape. The planer has fewer regular tools than the lathe. There is no threading tool for the planer, but the round nose and side tools are very similar for lathe and planer. A square-nose finishing tool is much used with the planer.
