Chain Stitch. So called from its resemblance to the links of a chain. Each stitch is formed by inserting the needle in the last loop made, and bringing it out a little lower than where it went in. Bring the needle up from the wrong side, hold the thread down with the left thumb, put the needle back into the hole it came from, and bring it out again about an eighth of an inch below the last loop.
