R. sceleratus: annual; stems 1-2 feet high; lower leaves broad, stalked, tripartite, the segments blunt crenate, upper leaves trifid, inciso-dentate; flowers very small, pale yellow. - By ditches and ponds. Fl. June to September.
** Leaves hairy.
R. hirsutus: annual; stems 4-18 inches high; radical leaves with three stalked, trifid, and cut leaflets, peduncles furrowed; flowers pale yellow. - Damp wastes and meadows. Fl. June to October.
