S. stricta: steins stiff, erect, 1-2 feet high; leaves short, erect, flat, excepting at the top, the edges always rolled inwards when dry; panicle 3-4 inches long, consisting of 2-4 erect, spike-like branches, with the spikelets arranged in two rows, erect, turning to one side; glumes downy. - Muddy salt-marshes. Fl. August.
