S. Coronopus: annual; stems at first forming a close tuft, afterwards spreading; leaves once or twice pinnately divided, the segments linear or wedge-shaped, entire or toothed; racemes forming close sessile heads, lengthening as the fruit ripens to 1-2 inches; flowers inconspicuous; pod small, marked with deep wrinkles, which form a kind of crest round the edge. - A common weed. Fl. June to September.
