S. didyma: annual; stem spreading, prostrate, a foot or more in length; leaves pinnatifid; flowers small, white, in long, lax, slender clusters; pouch notched, of two wrinkled lobes; style extremely short. - Waste ground near the sea. Fl. July to September.

(5) Dianthus. Pink. D. prolifer: annual; stem erect, wiry, 1-1 1/2 foot high; flowers capitate, small, rose-pink, the bracts ovate-obtuse, membranous, overtopping the calyx. - Gravelly pastures. Fi. July to September.
