A. officinalis: stems erect, branched, 2-3 feet high, covered, as well as the foliage, with soft, velvety down; leaves stalked, broadly ovate, undivided or three-lobed; flowers pale rose-colour, ou short pedicels in the upper axils, or forming almost leafless terminal spikes; carpels rounded on the back. - Marsh Mallow. - Marshes, especially near the sea. Fl. July to September.
