Family, Figwort. Color, purple or white (see p. 346). Calyx and corolla tubular, 5-parted, the corolla with a plaited border. Stamens, 4. Leaves, long and narrow. Flowers in axillary racemes.

The corolla is a type of many members of this Family, 2-lipped, the lips meeting and closing the throat of the tube. By pressing the thumb and finger on the sides of the flower it may be made to open and shut like an animal's mouth. Dry fields, dumping-grounds. Not common.

A. majus. - Color, white, blue, or purple (see p. 346). Often escaped from gardens. The parent of many cultivated varieties.
