The delicate flowers grow in spikes from the axils of opposite leaves, thus making the flowers in pairs. Leaves, entire, serrate, acute, narrow, clasping at base. Stem, creeping and rooting along the ground, the tip and flowering branches erect. June to August.

In wet soil, along brooks and ditches. Massachusetts southward.
