S. Japonica. - The Japan Sophora is a highly ornamental tree, of medium size, growing from thirty to forty feet high, producing white, pea-shaped flowers, in clusters similar to. the locust, in August. The foliage is handsome, pinnate, or small leaflets arranged in pairs upon a long central stem.
S. Japonica pendula, or Weeping Sophora, is a beautiful tree, with pendulous, delicate branches, of deep green. When in full foliage and bloom it is an elegant tree for the lawn.
