A smooth-stemmed, branching plant 6 - 14 inches high, found in woodlands. Nova Scotia to Pennsylvania, west to the Rocky Mountains.

Flowers

Golden yellow, irregular, about 1/2 inch long, borne in short, terminal clusters. Seed pods drooping or spreading, slightly curved, lumpy.

Leaves

Compound, finely dissected.
