Found in moist, heavily-shaded woods. Throughout North America, except far south.
Waxy white, solitary, nodding, terminating stem 4 - 10 inches high.
None. Plant stem colorless, turning black with age, bearing numerous scales, one or more stems arising from a mass of brittle, fibrous roots.
