Found in rocky places, open woods. Massachusetts to Minnesota and southward.

Flowers

Pale magenta, sometimes white, 5 divisions, borne in clusters of 3 - 12 terminating a slender stalk 4 - 8 inches high.

Leaves

Composed of 3 clover-like leaflets borne on slender stems springing from the root.
