Here's a hot drink for a zero night. Have half a dozen lumps of sugar, four whole allspice, two whole cloves, the juice of half a lemon, and half a teaspoonful of ground cinnamon in a saucer. Mix well and put in the bowl and pour over half a pint of claret and let it boil for just two minutes, stirring all the while. Strain into hot glasses, and over the top of each grate a little nutmeg before serving.
