This section is from the "A Bachelor's Cupboard" book, by John W. Luce.
Scour with powdered borax and a damp rag, rinsing off with clear water. If discolored, make a paste of equal parts of ammonia and alcohol and enough whiting to make thin, applying with a piece of chamois skin. Rub the nickel with a piece of clean chamois or flannel until bright. This will keep the chafing-dish bright and clean. The smoke from the alcohol lamp should first be washed off in hot soap suds. If very thick, wipe off first with a piece of newspaper before washing.
