1 cup white flour
2 cups bran flour i cup of sour milk or buttermilk 1 teaspoon soda
3 tablespoons molasses pinch of salt butter size of walnut (melt)
1 egg
1/2 cup sugar
Method :
Bake twenty minutes in a slow oven. Makes fifteen gems.

1/2 cup bran
1 1/2 cups flour
5 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons sugar
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons shortening
Method :
Mix thoroughly bran, flour, baking powder, salt, sugar; add sufficient water to make soft dough; add melted shortening. Roll out lightly to about one-fourth inch thickness on floured board; cut with biscuit cutter. Bake in a hot oven twelve to fifteen minutes. Makes about twelve biscuits.

1 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
(sift with flour) 1 egg
1/2 cup sugar butter size of a nut - melted
1 cup milk salt makes 12 gems

1 1/2 cups sour milk 1 1/2 cups graham flout 1 1/2 cups white flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder butter size of walnut, melted
1/2 cup nuts
1 cup chopped dates
Method :
Mix thoroughly and bake.

1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk 1/2 teaspoon salt
Method :
Mix ingredients to the same consistency as for baking powder biscuits. Roll and cut into desired shapes. Bake on a griddle.

3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup milk 1 egg
Method :
Mix in order given and cut in oblongs. Beat egg in a cup and spread over rolls. Then sprinkle sugar on top and bake until brown.

2 cups sifted bread flour
4 teaspoons baking powder
2 tablespoons shortening - work in thoroughly
3/4 cups milk - enough to make a soft dough.
2 tablespoons sugar 1 teaspoon salt
Method :
Turn on well floured board, roll oblongly, to one-fourth inch thickness twice as long as wide. Spread with two tablespoons softened butter. Sprinkle with mixture cinnamon and sugar (one-third cup sugar and one-fourth teaspoon cinnamon).

1 pint flour
1 pint sour milk
3 to 4 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon soda
2 tablespoons hot water
Method :
Beat yolk of egg, stir in sugar and salt, add flour alternately, add butter, soda in hot water, and fold in beaten egg white. Syrup: Brown one-fourth cup sugar, add two cups sugar and cup of hot water.
