1 cup butter 2 cups sugar 2 eggs well beaten 1 cup milk
3 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons vanilla
Method:
Cream butter and sugar and add the rest of the mixture. Divide in half and add two tablespoons of cocoa to one half. Put first light, then dark, alternately, into tin.

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup light brown sugar
2 egg yolks 3/4 cup milk 1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
Method :
Mix one-half cup shortening with one cup of light brown sugar. Add two egg yolks. Mix well and add three-fourths cup of milk. Sift together one and one half cups flour, one-half tea-spoon salt, and two teaspoons baking powder and add shortening, sugar and egg yolks. Add 1 cup of nut meats and one teaspoon of vanilla. Bake in moderate oven thirty-five minutes. Serves sixteen.
