1 cup raised dough, 1/2 cup of butter, 1 cup of sugar, 2 eggs, 2 sticks of grated chocolate, 1/2 teaspoonful of nutmeg and cinnamon each. 1/2 teaspoonful of soda; no. milk or water; flour enough to make quite stiff.

1 1/2 cups sugar, 2-3 cup butter, 1 cup milk, whites of 4 eggs, 2 coffee cups flour, 2 teaspoons linking powder; flavor with vanilla.

I cup sugar, 1/2 cup butter beat with sugar to a cream; 1/2 cup sweet milk, whites of 1 eggs beaten to a hard foam; 2 cups sifted flour. 1 teaspoonful of baking powder; flavor to taste. Frosting - 10 tablespoonfuls of sugar. 4 tablespoonfuls of water; boil until little stringy; cool a little and add whites of 2 well beaten eggs; beat until cool, and spread on cake.

I pound granulated sugar, 1/2 pound butter. Stir these well together. Add 5 eggs well beaten, 2 wine glasses sour cream,
1 wine glass brandy, 1 wine glass molasses, 1 pound of flour and as much soda as will lay on end of knife: 1 nutmeg, -dessert spoons cinnamon. 2 pounds raisins, stoned and cut; 1 pound currants, 1/4 pound citron or orange peel; 1 pound chopped walnuts, 1/2 cup orange marmalade. Put a little of the flour with the fruit. Bake in a moderate oven 1 1/2 hours.
2 Cups brown sugar. 1/2 cup butter (beaten to a cream); 2 eggs (well beaten), 1/2 cup sour milk (or cream). mix 1/2 cup boiling water, in which dissolve 1 rounded teaspoon soda; stir and pour over 2 oz. baker's grated unsweetened chocolate; mix well, then pour into cake mixture. add 2 teaspoons vanilla. 2 cups of flour (after sifting). grease pans well and sprinkle with flour. filling - 1 1/2 cups brown sugar, 3 table-spoons water; boil until it threads; add piece of butter, pour into beaten white and add small cup grated chocolate, and stir.

2 cups sugar. 1 cup butter, 3 cups flour, 8 eggs (whites only), 2 level teaspoonfuls baking powder, 1/2 pound finely chopped blanched almonds, 1 cup grated cocoanut, 1/4 pound finely cut citron, 1/2 glass white wine, tablespoonful rose water. Bake about 1 hour.

2 cups sugar. 1 cup butter, 1 cup sweet milk, 3 cups flour, 2 level teaspoonfuls baking powder, whites of eight eggs.
Mrs. Villa Blakely.
2 cups sugar, 3/4 cup butter, 4 eggs, 1 cup milk, 2 cups flour, 3 teaspoonfuls baiting powder, 1 tablespoonful cinnamon. Frosting - Whites of 2 eggs, 18 teaspoonfuls sugar, 1 tea-spoonful cinnamon. This, without the cinnamon, makes a good plain cake.

1 cup sweet butter. 1/2 cup pulverized sugar creamed together; and. drop by drop at a time, add 4 tablespoons of strong coffee. Flavor with vanilla.
