3 TBSP Crisco shortening OR Parkay OR butter
1 cup milk
1 cup white sugar
2 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Topping: 2 cups fresh pitted cherries (you can substitute any berries for the cherries),
1 cup white sugar, 1 cup hot water
In a mixer beat Crisco/Parkay/or butter with 1 cup white sugar. Add milk and baking
powder--beat. Add flour--beat. Pour batter into a greased 9 x 13 cake pan. In a bowl
combine 1 cup white sugar and the pitted cherries--stir. Spoon cherry/sugar mixture
evenly over the top of the batter in the cake pan. Pour the cup of hot water (not
boiling) evenly over the top of the cherries. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
Serve with milk poured on servings or with ice cream.
