The plant house at the Agricultural College at Lansing is a success, an honor to the institution and to the State. But it is just in its infancy and should be extended. We strongly recommend that this department be placed on a paying basis. The experiment to be tested is whether the growing of plants will pay. This is a narrow, low and selfish view of the case, but it is a lesson to be taught. Will it pay? Will flowers pay in dollars and cents? Not socially, intellectually, morally, aesthetically or hygieni-cally? Will they pay like potatoes, corn, pigs or eggs? There are plenty of people in Michigan that will favor the plant house just as soon as they see the shinplasters and greenbacks growing out of them.- Michigan Fanner.
