This excellent botanist and founder of the celebrated seed firm of Haage & Schmidt, of Errfurt, recently made a botanical excursion to Switzerland, where he fell from the rocks at Murren and was dashed to pieces. Mr. Haage, when a young man, was a student in the Royal Botanic Garden, Regent's Park, at London, when the writer of this first, made his acquaintance, and admired him for his zealous enthusiasm in the cause of botany and horticulture; and there is perhaps no better evidence of his strength of character than in the. building up of the well-known and influential firm of which he was the senior partner.
