A very annoying blunder occurs in our October number which has only just received our attention. The article at page 314, headed "Importation of plants into Germany," is stated to be by Prof. C. V. Riley; whereas it is simply and purely an editorial note, and the Editor is responsible for it. Prof. Riley, knowing the Editor's desire to get information on the condition of the German Phylloxera laws as early as possible, kindly sent us the new decree, which we received on the eve of his departure for Europe. We have not heard from Prof. Riley on the subject, but of course he does not care to be made responsible for the Editor's comments upon the decree. Though there is nothing in the editorial matter to the discredit of Prof. Riley, but, on the contrary, nothing but praise, it is of a nature to do him great injustice, without this explanation, which we are sorry not to have sooner noted is required at our hands.
