A genus of evergreen trees or shrubs mostly natives of Chile, of an upright habit of growth, with myrtle-like leaves, forming very elegant and graceful shrubs with small white, yellow or red flowers. Maytenus boaria (with white flowers) and Maytenus Chilensis (bearing greenish-yellow flowers) are the most desirable species.

They thrive in any garden soil and in any situation, being particularly adapted for growing in the Southern part of California, while they also do well in San Francisco and neighborhood.

Propagate by cuttings in early Fall.
