The Grains of Paradise were formerly used extensively as a spice. In the apothecary shops they were known as Grana Paradisi, Semina Cardamom i major is, and as Piper Melegueta.
Oil of paradise grains was distilled by Porta6) at the beginning of the 17. century and used medicinally.
