Carbonei Disulphidum. Carbon Disulphide. Cs2= 75.93. Synonym. - Carbon Bisulphide.
By combination of Carbon and Sulphur, by distillation.
A clear, colorless, highly refractive liquid, very diffusive, having a strong characteristic, but not fetid odor, and a sharp, aromatic taste. Solubility. - In 535 parts of water; very soluble in Alcohol, Ether, Chloroform, fixed and volatile oils. Sp. gr., 1.268 to 1.269.
Uses of Carbon Disulphide.
Carbon disulphide is used as a solvent. It is the best solvent for rubber and similar bodies. It can be freed from its usual disgusting odor by repeated rectification.
