Since it has been shown by Pasteur that the vinous fermentation is arrested by raising to the temperature of 160° Fahr. the bottles containing new wine, this fact has been extensively applied, and is called Pasteurism. Recently the breathing of hot air has been brought forward as a remedy for phthisis, and the results of the practice have been good. The air, washed, is heated by a Bunsen's burner, and then breathed by the patient for a time which is determined by the condition. A heat of 200° Fahr. is the initial temperature, and this is raised up to 300°, even 400°, and the time occupied from a half to two hours, several times each day.
