Scraper. This is a thin piece of steel from four to six inches long, by rather less in width, and though apparently not commonly known among amateurs, is invariably part of the workshop outfit. As its name implies, it is used for scraping surfaces smooth, and may be regarded as an adjunct to the smoothing plane, or as superseding this when its use would be unsuitable, as in the case of veneered work. For ordinary purposes they are straight edged, but they are occasionally seen in various shapes for use on mouldings, etc.
