From a tree of the Myrtle tribe, a native of the West Indies, allspice, or Jamaica pepper, is obtained. Allspice is the dried berry; it is so called because it is considered to have the flavor of cloves, cinnamon, and nutmeg combined. It is mildly pungent and agreeably aromatic.
