[It. bergatnotta ; prob. from Turk. beg armudi, a lord's pear.] A tree of the Orange family, having a pear-shaped fruit, from the rind of which is extracted an essential oil with a delicious and much-prized perfume called oil of bergamot. This oil is used in perfumery and in making liqueurs.
