Gordonia Lasianthus - Family, Tea or Camellia. Color, white. Leaves, leathery, lance-shape to oblong, finely toothed, smooth, shiny, feather-veined, without stipules. Sepals and petals, 5, the latter 1 1/2 inches long. Stamens, in clusters at the base of each petal. Style, 1. Pod, 5-valved. Flowers, showy, borne on long peduncles in the axils.

A shrub or small tree found in swamps from Virginia southward, near the coast.
