This is prepared from the leaves and tops of horehound, a herb found in Asia and on the Mediterranean; naturalized in the United States and Canada, it flowers frequently in our gardens. Horehound has a strong, peculiar, and aromatic odor and an aromatic and persistent bitter taste. It is considered a stomachic tonic and contains a small quantity of volatile oil, and other common principles.
Prepare the extract by exhausting the dried or fresh herb in a percolator with diluted alcohol in the usual manner.
