Lay the patient on his back, and do not raise the head, but allow it to remain at the same level as the rest of the body. Loosen the collar, and anything tight about the neck and body, and apply smelling-salts to the nose, and bathe the face and head with cold water, dashing it on.
When the patient is able to swallow, administer brandy. The all-important point is to keep the patient's head low.
Hysterics may be treated in the same manner as fainting.
