Flour, 3 cups,

Butter, 1 heaping teaspoon,

Salt, 1/2 teaspoon,

Baking-powder, 3 level teaspoons,

Milk.

Sift the flour, salt and baking-powder together, and rub in the butter. Mix to a soft dough with milk. Place without cutting, on a hot greased griddle and cover. Cook on a moderate fire 10 minutes. Slip off on a board, turn, return to the griddle, and cook 10 minutes longer. Break into pieces, and serve with butter.
