Our young testers loved these cookies, especially the crackled, sugary tops.
Mix thoroughly
Stir in
3/4 cup soft shortening 1 cup brown sugar
(packed) l egg 1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups sifted Gold Medal Flour 2 teaspoons soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cloves 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon ginger
Chill dough.
Heat oven to 375°.
Roll dough into balls the size of large walnuts.
Dip tops in sugar. Place, sugared-side-up, 3 inches apart on greased baking sheet.
Sprinkle each cooky with 2 or 3 drops of water for a crackled surface.
Bake 10 to 12 minutes, just until set but not hard.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
Little sisters like to get in the fun and cook, too.
Roll dough to the size of large walnuts.
Dip tops in sugar.
