This gentleman, after whom the very beautiful species of Tulip, Tulipa Griegii was named, died recently. He was a famous amateur horticulturist and President of the Imperial Horticultural Society of Russia. The following, from a recent issue of the Gardeners Chronicle, gives an idea of the beautiful flower with which this gentleman's name is so honorably connected:

"Tulipa Griegii is a wonder among Tulips; it is by far the largest and most striking of any of the species, the flowers looking like great flames rising out of the pretty mottled leaves. It seems to like rather a dry situation where it can get plenty of sun".
