The dried leaves of Atropa Belladonna, yielding by the process outlined in the pharmacopeia, not less than 0.3 per cent, of mydriatic alkaloids, chiefly hyoscyamin.
Action and Uses: The active principle of belladonna acts like atropin. Belladonna leaves are narcotic, anodyne, anti-spasmodic and mydriatic, the medicinal value being due to the contained mydriatic alkaloids.
