Cascara consists of the dried bark of Rhamnus Purshiana (Fam. Rhamnaceae), a small tree of Northern California.

Cascara is used as a mild laxative to correct habitual constipation. Dose, 1 Gm. The official preparations are: the Extract, the Fluidextract and the Aromatic Fluidextract.
