Chloral Hydrate is used principally as a hypnotic. Dose, 0.5 Gm. Two other hypnotics of the methane group are Sulphonethylmethane (trional), and Sulphonmethane (sulphonal).

Both of these drugs are used as quietants and hypnotics, but are less certain in action than Chloral, and somewhat more dangerous. Dose (of either), 0.75 Gm.
