The salts of these two metals may be studied together, inasmuch as their respective actions are closely similar, the K ion being probably the more irritant of the two. Where the same salts of both metals are official, the sodium salt is usually to be pre-ferred. Many of the official salts are either superfluous or are of commercial interest solely.
