Mi-mo-sa'se-e. L. Mimos-a -+- aceae, fr. L. mimus, Gr.
a mimic - i. e., the leaves often mimic or imitate animal sensibility, moving by slight impulse, partly closing when touched, etc. Herbs, shrubs, trees. Distinguished by leaves compound, 2-3 pinnate (sometimes phyllodia); calyx 3-6-toothed or lobed, corolla 3-6's, stamens distinct or monadelphous, ovary 1-celled, ovules several; fruit, legume; tropics, temperate climates; tonic, astringent, demulcent, nutritive, dye. Genus: 1. Acacia.
