Valeriana Phu'. W. Asia, S. Europe; tall perennial; rhizome (Radix Valeriana Majoris) is 10-15 Cm. (4-6') long, 12 Mm. (1/2') thick, annulated, brown; V. mexica'na and V. tolucca'na, Mexico. All three yield valeric acid; odor and taste weaker than official.
2. V. cel'tica (Nardus Spica celtica). - Alps, and Nardos'tachys Jataman'si, Nar'dus in'dica (Spicanardi) or true spikenard, India; the former has valerian odor, the latter that of serpentaria.
