These are often connected with the strumous diathesis, and iodine tincture is one of the best local applications, though it is an unpleasant one, and sometimes excites much irritation. After some absorption has occurred, I follow its use with the solution of perchloride of iron. In obstinate cases a few drops of iodine tincture have been injected into the substance of the tonsil, with good result.

The internal use of the drug, or of iodides and cod-liver oil, is desirable at the same time.
