Gynocardia odorata. India. N. 0. Bixacece.
A forest tree, with a fleshy fruit, larger than an orange, containing many very oily seeds. [Active principle is Gynocardic acid, which see. The whitish oil, solid at 62°, is used internally and externally in skin diseases; also in rheumatism, sciatica, etc. In eczema, Gynocardic acid, 15 to 25 grains, in 1 ounce of vaseline or fossiline, to be applied four times daily. Internally, 5 to 10 drops of oil or 1/2 grain of acid, taken, after food, thrice daily; the oil in capsule, the acid in pills, and the dose to be gradually increased to five times the amount. "Of value as a liniment in gonorrheal rheumatism, especially mixed in equal parts with lanoline." - Lancet, Sept. 24th, 1887.
