The active principle of Jaborandi.

White liquid alkaloid, of which the salts are used. It has been produced artificially from a derivative of Pyridin, being the second alkaloid (the first was Conia) built up by synthesis.

The RapeU tics. A powerful sudorific in jaundice, etc. Hypoder-mically inject 10 to 20 minims of a 2 % solution, or 1/20 grain three times a day. In French Codex, 1884. There are three other alkaloids, Jaborine, Pilocarpidine and Jaboridine, (Pharm. Journal, xvi., p. 106).

The Nitrate has been used with much benefit for pleurisy and night sweating. Dose, 1/4 grain hypodermically, in water: or in pill. Is antagonistic to Atropine.

The Hydrochlorate is in minute white deliquescent crystals. Sialogogue. Dose as Nitrate. In Pharm. Germ., 1882.
