ChaRacteristics. Thin, easily detached bark, in purplish warty pieces, soon breaking up; with whitish interior, darker on surfaces; bitter taste and rather strong unpleasant odour.
Therapeutics. Powerful in preventing abortion, and stopping a threatened miscarriage. Dose, 1/2 to 1 drachm of fluid extract, every hour, or 3 grains doses of solid extract every three or four hours.
"It arrests uterine action." - Dr. Campbell, Brit. Med. Jour., Feb. 27th, 1886. "A 4-grain pill, three times a day regularly, arrests abortion." - Koberts, Brit. Med. Jour., Nov. 26th, 1887. In dys-menorrhoea, in 30 minims doses of fluid extract.
