Characters

Colorless, transparent, tabular, rhombic crystals, becoming gray or grayish-black on exposure to light in the presence of organic matter; without odor, but having a bitter, caustic and strongly metallic taste. Solubility. - In 0.6 part of water; and in 26 parts of Alcohol. It should be kept in the dark, as light blackens it.

Incompatibles

Alkalies and their carbonates, chlorides, acids (except nitric and acetic), potassium iodide, solutions of arsenic and astringent infusions.

Other nitrates.

Dose, 1/4 to 1 gr.; .015 to .06 gm. in a pill.
