Med. Prop. and Action. Gentle astringent and tonic. It may be given in decoction (oz. j. ad Aq. Oj.), in doses of fl. oz. j. - fl. oz. ij. Dose, gr. xxx. - lxxx.
In Chronic Diarrhoea and Dysentery, it was found very beneficial by De Haen, who recommends it in decoction (ut supra) after a gentle aperient.
Prout§ speaks favourably of it. He considers it more especially useful in those forms and stages of the affection marked by irritative excitement rather than by vascular activity, or by organic disease.
